My name is Jennifer Penney. I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of MIssouri. In my previous positions, I have worked mostly with young adults and adults (17 and up) who needed support with learning effective/assertive communication and conflict resolution techniques as well as gaining coping skills for anxiety, anger, or depression. I have worked with non-profit agencies in the Employment sector as well as worked as a counselor, providing services to people who may have developmental, intellectual, or physical disabilities. My early training was in a physical rehabilitation hospital providing one-on-one counseling with people who had experienced severe injury, illness, or trauma. I later provided assessments and guidance for clients in a pre-employment program.

I am an Eclectic Therapist, using primarily Realistic Therapy but also Humanistic Therapy with a Person-Centered and Existential approach, depending on clients’ wants and needs. I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing techniques as well. I enjoy collaborating with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and life situations and I strive to assist people with developing a healthy emotional lifestyle. I value my clients’ opinions and input in goal planning. Being a CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor), I enjoy utilizing evaluations and assessments that can assist with making life choices, as well as determining career or educational goals. Through a variety of methods and tools, I assist my clients with learning to identify and make better decisions. My hope for my clients is that they can improve in the desired areas of life to obtain a healthy, balanced lifestyle. My ideal client would be willing to address difficult issues causing distress in life and be ready to take action steps.
